Custom Log Form
Customized Log Form
One of the many significant features within LOGic 5 is the ability for the
user to customize the Log Form to their liking. Not only can the user
position entry fields as desired, but the order in which the cursor moves from
one entry field to another can be controlled. The user can add up to
10 "User Fields", such as my "DELIVER" "RIG", "AMP",
"OTHER", "ANT", "OP QTH", etc. fields to allow
entry of whatever the user desires.

Customized Default-Log Form
with added Delivery Method field |

This version adds a drop-down Userfield where I can select delivery method I will use for outgoing cards. Looking at printed QSLs, I can see how I intend to send each card. |

QSL Delivery Method
The user can also create numerous Log
Forms, tailoring each to a specific need. User Fields can be included in
the various Log Forms, however the use of each field can vary - for example, in
one "Log Form - Default" I use "User Field #9" to enter the
QSL card delivery method I will use, however in another log form, I use "User Field #9"
to enter other information... it depends on what the user would like
to do!
To make use of the delivery method field, the user merely types a keyword
(partial or complete) or uses the drop down list. By selecting a unique
keyword during the QSO (or after) representing the intended method of sending
your QSL, the user can establish sort criteria. It's then a simple
matter of sorting and printing. Another feature built into the drop down
list is inclusion of SASE, "Green Stamps" required, IRCs required, etc.
This information is printed using the Double Window Multi-QSO Report available
here at K1UQ.com. You can see this information right on your printed
cards, so you can be sure to include the necessary materials to get that rare
QSL!
QSL Mail Sorting
How I use LOGic to Sort my Outgoing QSLs
I have recently begun using a "new and improved" method of sorting (and
marking) cards in preparation for direct mailing or via the bureau.
For those interested in different methods, I will include both techniques -
prehaps one will be right for you.
New and Improved Method
I created a new drop-down list userfield called DELIVER in my Log form.
The drop-down list values are entered into LOGic's List of Valid Vlaues.
When entering QSL info, I can still enter the manager's info ("Via Userfield")
but now have a dedicated method of delivery userfield: "DELIVER". This
allows me to print delivery method right on QSL card, independant of manager
"Via" informtion.

Alternate Method
A number of people asked how I sort my cards. I make good use of
"VIA", "ADDRESS", and "NOTES" fields on the log form, entering one of several keywords. I also enjoy
listing the equipment used to make the contact, so I put the USER fields to good
use.
"VIA" Field
If the card is to be sent via the bureau, I enter "BUREAU".
If it will be sent direct and in an envelope, I enter "DIRECT".
If I receive a SASE, I enter "SASE - THANKS!" and if I received a post
card (not in an envelope) I enter "POSTCARD". I can choose to
sort several ways. After sorting by call/country and printing I can manually
sort by "VIA" keyword. Or I can use LOGic filters to print by
keyword. If I have a lot to process, filtering by keyword and sorting by
call/country saves a lot of time.
"ADDRESS" & "NOTES" Fields
If the station has a manger, the manager's call is entered. If using a
manger, I may put the DX address in the "NOTES" tab card field and
enter the manager's address in the ADDRESS tab field as this will be the address
printed on QSL card. This keeps a record of both DX & manager addresses.
"SWL" Field
QSLing to Short Wave Listeners is easy if you make use of the "SWL"
field. (Go to LOGic's Help, select Find and type SWL).
I made my SWL field 20 characters long rather than the suggested 12. When
I get a SWL report, I type the SWL identifier into the CALL field, and type the
call sign of the station he heard me work into the SWL field. Having seen
SWL identifiers that are very close to a real ham call sign, I enter the SWL
identifier with a preceding single quote mark. Example: 'DE1MLB
A preceding single quote mark allows convenient sorting. If I double
click on the CALL column in the Log-Browser window, all SWL reports are grouped
together.
Reminder - as LOGic's help says - - "Be sure to enter I (ignore) in QSL Rcvd so that LOGic will not count this SWL entry towards any awards credit."
"USER" Fields
I use all ten available user fields (and wish there were many more!).
Look at my card pictures and you will see various entries that show the rig,
antenna, and perhaps amplifier and tuner, used during a QSO. I can include
or exclude these fields as desired.
