VHF Repeater W1WQM/R -    Repeater Photos

145.15 MHz with a minus (-600 KHz) offset
(Input is 144.55 MHz and the Output is 145.15 MHz)
Please note a  "PLTM"  tone is required - see below...

Setting YOUR rig to TRANSMIT a PLTM Tone  (Tone Encode):

The PCARC Repeater System has three receiver sites.  One is in Kensington where the transmitter is located, and the others are in Durham and Portsmouth.  All receiver sites need to "hear" a specific sub-audible PLTM tone on your transmitted signal.  If you are not transmitting a PLTM tone, or are not transmitting the correct PLTM tone for the intended receiver, you will NOT be heard.  Use the PLTM tone to select the receiver nearest your location.  When in doubt, select the PLTM tone for Kensington.

During ARES Nets and other Special Events, the PLTM tone requirement is dropped for easier access.

These are the PLTM tones for each of the PCARC receiver sites:
    Durham             88.5 Hz
    Kensington    127.3 Hz
    Portsmouth    110.9 Hz

Setting YOUR rig to RECEIVE a PLTM Tone  (Tone Decode):

The repeater also Transmits a 123.7 Hz PLTM tone.  It is not necessary for you to enable your receiver to decode the tone transmitted by the PCARC repeater.  Use of this tone will however, and only if you should choose to do so, allow you to utilize PLTM tone decoding features in your radio - if so equipped.  Using PLTM tone decoding will keep your receiver muted until such time it detects the PCARC transmitted signal and its PLTM tone.  Your receiver hears the PCARC transmitted tone and unmutes, allowing PCARC audio to be heard.  When the PCARC signal and PLTM tone disappears, your receiver will revert to a muted condition.  When operating from a distance to the PCARC repeater, and have difficulty receiving the PCARC machine, try disabling your PLTM tone decode.  (you will still need to transmit a PLTM tone).
